Scholarships, grants available for military families

FORT SILL, Okla.-- Applications for 2013 Our Future scholarships and grants are now available at www.ourfamilyfoundation.org.

The foundation was established to support military families in the pursuit of higher education; it has awarded more than $3.5 million since 2006.

Applications for the scholarship must be submitted by Feb. 14, and will be awarded in amounts up to $50,000 each to high school seniors with plans to attend a four-year university or college. The foundation will select 10 children of active-duty service members to receive the scholarships based on merit and need at forts Meade, Bragg, Polk, Rucker, Riley and Sill, and Aberdeen Proving Ground. Scholarship recipients will be notified by April 8.

"We are honored to help military families reach their educational goals, and we hope these scholarships help the children and spouses of active-duty service members to reach higher," said Maria Montalvo, executive director.

Educational grant applications must be submitted by May 9. Grants are given in amounts up to $5,000 for the spouse of an active-duty service member at the installations listed above. Applicants may be in any stage of the educational process. Grant recipients will be notified by July 12.

Applications and all necessary paperwork for scholarships and grants must be submitted by the deadline to be considered. Scholarship and grant awards are for use beginning in the fall.
